Inn or Out Events invades Canada!

284It is a very exciting time for Inn or Out Events as our Development Chef, Mark Andrews, has been selected to compete in the Garland Canada International Chef Challenge being hosted in Canada! The competition takes place as part of the 19th annual Prince Edward Island International Shellfish Festival held in Charlottetown on Prince Edward Island.

Mark was part of a team which delivered the prestigious Atlantic Canada event held at Canada House on Trafalgar Square in April this year. He and his team impressed the Canadian chefs present to such an extent that he has been included in this competition trip to Canada! Canadian seafood was the main feature of the Atlantic Canada event, with exhibits around oysters, shrimps, mussels, snow crab and of course…. Canadian lobster! Live demonstrations, tastings and canapés brought the two nations together and formed the basis for Mark to be invited to Canada and again cook fantastic seafood.

Mark will enter a fierce competition for $10,000 against 12 top chefs from around the globe in a black box competition. An elimination style event will boil down to two chefs cooking off for the final prize. Entrants will be given 45 minutes to prepare ingredients from the black box which will highlight the Prince Edward Island Shellfish as the star of the dish. The pressure heats up as a clock counts down in the final rounds, between paired chefs to make it through to the next round! In front of a live audience, a panel of celebrity judges will decipher which dish will take out the top gong!

Mark has cooked regularly with Canadian seafood through his work at Canada House. Highlights have been his encounter with gooey duck for the Atlantic Canada event last year! Lobster, oysters, mussels and shrimps feature regularly in Mark’s creative and beautiful style of cooking. His inspired ideas are flowing ahead of his upcoming flight to Canada and we cannot wait to hear what dish he crafts and to get some photographs from the event!
